Evidence-Based Practices. The primary practices used by our clinicians are listed on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices* and include the following. (SAMHSA is no longer publishing the NREPP on its website as of June 2018.)
- Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing (EMDR) *
- Ego State Therapy
- Clinical Hypnosis
- Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT)
- Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT)
- Motivational Interviewing *
- Interactive Journaling *
- Seeking Safety *
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) *
Other practices and approaches used include:
- Stages of Change
- Duluth Model (for domestic violence victims and offenders)
- 12-Step approach and referrals to:
- HeartMath Biofeedback
- Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS)
- Bibliotherapy
- Psychoeducation
Treatment may include formal and informal assessments as well as homework assignments. An initial focus for many clients is learning and practicing affect regulation and stabilization exercises such as: Calm Place; Containment; Lightstream; Resource Development Installation; Future Rehearsal; guided imagery; grounding; and relaxation training. (Some of these are used as a component of EMDR therapy and Clinical Hypnosis.)
